Insurance Brokers and Consulting

Motor Insurance - CASCO (insurance of the motor vehicle itself)

Insurance brokers & consultants -- Consoris

CASCO (insurance of the motor vehicle itself)

This type of cover shall provide an indemnity with respect to damages sustained by the insured vehicle. Please remember that the indemnity is not payable in just any event nor always in the amount, which you expect to receive from the insurer. To avoid disappointments you have to bear in mind that the description of events which may give rise to a claim and method of calculation of the indemnity amount are regulated by an insurance contract which may not meet your expectations…

All insurers set a list of exclusions, restrictions and warranties that sometimes may not be obvious at first glance even for many professionals. Those restrictions may result into a very unpleasant surprise for the client at some later stage.

For example, considering motor insurance, you will notice that some of insurance companies set extremely high levels of amortisation, which according to the proposed policy wording shall be deducted from any indemnity payable under the contract. Therefore the amount of compensation you will receive from your insurer may be enough to pay only half of a garage bill and you will have to dip into your own pocket to cover the balance.

It is unlikely that you would want to buy any of the covers referred to above if you knew about their "disadvantages" beforehand. Many of the insurers purposely try to leave in the main frame of the insurance contract provisions, which may allow a dual interpretation, and therefore, in case of a loss, you are involved in never-ending disputes. As a result you will have to "compromise" which is unlikely to be the best possible settlement for you or even prefer to forget about any indemnity in order to simply end a dispute with such an insurer.

Even, if you succeed in finding an "ideal" policy worded in such a way as to suite you as client in every respect (this has never happened in our practice), you also have to remember that you have to make the correct choice in selecting your risk carrier itself, which is equally, if not more important. Frankly speaking the choice of insurer is starting point. Otherwise you can find yourselves in a position where you are holding a perfectly worded contract and yet be unable to collect a penny. We believe that it is better to deal with a good insurer even if the proposed policy wording contains exclusions and restrictions known in advance rather then to have an excellent contract provided by an insurance company which is unlikely to be able to fulfil its obligations under the contract.

The above arguments are relevant not only to motor, medical or property insurance but to all insurance covers without any exception and the examples referred to above are only few out of hundred of situations which we, at Consoris, a professional consulting company have come across in real life.

Notwithstanding the fact, that our company is a part of the insurance industry, we regret to state that there is no ideal insurance cover, which will be able to give you a protection against all possible risks. At least our experts, who have a long-standing experience not only with the Ukrainian but also the European insurance market, have not seen an insurance cover which will literally protect you from all possible risks. And we believe that there is no reason to blame insurers as their absolutely natural desire is to take the maximum from a client and obviously to pay out minimum possible is the only way to make profit, there is no other way known to the mankind.

Trying to find an "ideal" solution which will protect you from absolutely everything is a waste of time as such solution simply does not exist. However looking for the best possible combination of quality and price is something that our forte. We help our clients to make an optimal choice and then provide our assistance in the claims handling.
